I loved coloring when I was younger along with doing anything creative. I was always with crayons or markers and paper. I could sit for hours and hours doodling and coloring. I passed on that gene to my kids as well. All of my kids love to create masterpieces, whether it’s drawing, coloring pages, or arts and crafts they love it. My two youngest, (1 and almost 3) love to color, while they can’t stay in the lines or create things that you can tell what they are I love it when companies come out with products that are geared towards them and their development.
Crayola did just that with their new collection of My First Crayola products, these products are designed specifically for children as young as 12 months. First art experiences are very important and can often lead to major developmental milestones like large and fine motor skills as well as self-confidence and early literacy skills. A child’s first scribbles represent the beginning of their journey for symbolic communication needed to develop reading and writing skills. My First Crayola is a line of specifically designed art supplies and activities for children as young as 12 months and features three inspiring ways which those tiny little hands can create masterpieces with art tools, mess free activities and creative activities that feature dry erase crayons and music.
Crayola Toddler Products
We were sent an amazing package from the My First Crayola line of products that included My First Crayola Washable Crayons, Markers and Stampers. This set is designed with toddlers in mind and designed to fit the palm of their hand neatly. Each Crayon, Marker and Stamper is bigger and come in fun animal shapes which both of my younger kids loved. They were easy for them to grip and hold on to. The suggested age is 12 months and my 15 month old had no problems gripping onto them. It did take awhile and some encouraging from his older sister in order for him to actually start using them correctly. He would sit and stare at the fun little animals instead of using them. Once he was showed how he let his creativity loose on their art table and a bit on the paper. It seemed he wanted a bigger canvas.
The next set we tried out was the My First Crayola mess-Free Marker & Paper and the Mess Free Finger paint and Paper. The markers are recommended for ages 12+ months and the finger paint 24+ months. So I broke out our art easel and with participation from my two older children the younger ones started their creative journey through markers and finger paints. The marker is perfect for the little man, he can grab onto it easily and he can use them with ease. The best part is, is it shows up on the paper and not on everything else so mess making is a minimum and he discovers an array of colors in just one marker. He did discover this part and was amazed and kept trying to draw on the table but it wouldn’t work. He thought it was amusing.
Little Miss loved the finger paint; this is one thing that I highly recommend for toddlers. We haven’t used finger-paint with her before so she had a blast creating her masterpieces and coming out clean. It is just a tube which is easy and it lets her color with an array of colors with just one mark. She wasn’t paint messy but her masterpiece was perfect. Little Man was a bit upset that he couldn’t finger paint but he will be able to soon enough and until then he has his markers and crayons that are just for him whenever he wants to get creative. Or mimic Little Miss.
Next were the Washable Musical Rub Art Station and the Dry Erase Activity Mat and the Dry Erase Crayons. The musical rub art station is Little Miss’s favorite. There isn’t a day that goes by that she isn’t using it. She loves the noises it makes like pigs oinking. It’s combining two great things in one music and creativity. She loves drawing on it and I don’t need to worry about messes either. The stamps that come with allow her to also learn her animals and the sounds they make. This makes learning a lot more fun. The Dry Erase Activity Mat and Crayons are mommy’s favorite. Little Miss Loves to color on it but I love using it as a board for my older children as well, we went out and purchased 3 more of them so each child would have one. They are super fun and just like a regular dry-erase board with white on one side and black on the other. The kids can color in different colors and wipe clean. No fussing or messes. I love the boards because of the color. I can use them for different instructions for the kids and write it in a different color for each child. These are wonderful and a must own for our family.
Overall everything that we received from Crayola from their new My First Crayola line is fantastic. It allows for creative play for ages 12+ months and up. Toddlers love to create things and these products are great for that in a variety of mediums available from crayons, markers, stamps as well as finger paints and dry erase crayons. There are so many options to spark creativity in younger toddlers. All of the products all of my children loved including my older ones as well. Everything is reasonably priced and I like that there is little to mess to clean up or clean off the kids. These have given them hours and hours of enjoyment and still do this day.
